Gosainkunda Trek

Trip Overview Gosainkunda Trek

Langtang Region that locates itself to the north of Kathmandu Valley is a hot spot among wanderers which is able to magnetically attract soaring number of prospective trekkers each year. Multiple factors play key role in building an image of Langtang Region as the Eden for trekkers of which the prime reason is its positioning. Langtang places it at a stone-throw distance from the capital city, Kathmandu which makes the travel easily accessible and the expeditious one too.
Langtang Gosainkunda Trek is the once in a lifetime opportunity which I am sure you don’t want to miss. In fact, Langtang Gosainkunda Trek has got something for everybody that holds the interest of every visitors due to which it saves us from the dull and mechanical roaming.
Langtang Gosaikunda trekking at ‘Alpine Zone Treks’ is 18-day package that kick starts with the 9 hour drive through the serpentine track to Syabrubesi that marks the initiation of enthralling trekking adventure as we tread across Lama Hotel to exquisite and culturally rich Langatng Village that is peacefully nestled amid lush green woods at the highland. Stopping for a brief visit to Kyangjin Gompa Monastery that is the most revered monastery in entire Langtang Region, we will progress to Cherko Ri through sparsely populated area and advance through Sing Gompa Monastery to Gosainkunda. Having religious dip in the heart chilling lake of Gosainkunda, we will make our return trip through Tamang Villages of Ghopte, Kutumsang and Chisopani to Sundarijal, a drive whence will bring us back to Kathmandu from where it all started.
Treading along the lively woods of Langtang National Park with unmatched spectacle of Himalayan wildlife, we will persevere towards the pristine Gosainkunda Lake, the point of origin of Trishuli River.
Janai Purnima (the day when Brahmins change their sacred thread) that falls every year in the full moon of Bhadra which coincides with the English month of August is the busy period for pilgrims as devotees of various religious faith including Hindus, Buddhist and Shamans flock around the Gosainkunda Lake to have bath in the chilling lake of Gosainkunda which they strongly believe will cleanse their sin away. Gosainkunda Belt holds total 108 lakes of which Saraswati Kunda and Bhairab Kunda are the popular one and that we can have sight while en route.
A myth associated with the origin of Gosainkunda holds that the lake got manifested when Shiva, the destroyer God penetrated ground with his trident being unable to bear the trauma of Kalkut poison which he had to swallow to save the world. Devotees still claim to witness Lord Shiva lying asleep in the lake.
