Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek was brought into limelight by two great trekkers- Tenjing Norgay Sherpa of Nepal and Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand. They followed this trail and made the first successful ascent to the summit of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world with massive 8848m height dominating the skyline, in the year 1953.

Trekking to Everest from Jiri once used to teem with trekkers willing to reach the summit of Mount Everest. But after the construction of Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, the flight has curtailed the days required for trekking by 8 days and has also significantly decreased the number of trekkers, who chose the traditional route from Jiri to Everest.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek begins amid an enchanting 8 hour (188km) drive from Kathmandu to Jiri (2,100m). Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek follows the predictable route carved by the early Everest journey and serves as the main channel to the roadless Everest Region (Sagarmatha). It is believed that Sherpas migrated from the high valleys of South Mount Everest from Eastern Tibet. They are acknowledged as the authentic people of the Himalayas. Trekking is the most important source of earning.

Jiri to Everest Base Camp Trek is dotted with the tea houses and guest houses along the route. The standpoints are Deurali, Lamjura, Taktor, Namche Bazaar, Tyangbouche and Kalapatthar.
