Overview

Makalu Expedition is a challenging Peak, which is positioned at an elevation of 8,463 meter and it takes 60 days to accomplish Makalu Expedition. Makalu is counted as the 6th highest mountain, which is close to Mount Everest. Well-known as ‘Great Black Mountain’ with its dark gloomy manifestation, Makalu is situated in the northeast In comparison to other expeditions, Makalu Expedition is attempted by a very few climbers. An American team completed Makalu Expedition in 1954. If you are thinking of ascending Makalu, you must have prior mountaineering experience and knowledge about mountains.

Structurally, Makalu has sharp terrain and its ridges are knife-edged. The last ascent of the summit consists of technical rock and ice soaring. Ascending Makalu is in indeed a serious challenge from the Makalu Base Camp through the Chago Glacier.

For Makalu Expedition, Alpine Zone Treks makes use of 4 camps. Out of them, its 3rd camp is at Makalu La with an elevation of 7,400 meter. The elevated camp will be at the altitude of 7,800 meter on the North Face. Moreover, Makalu Expedition covers adaptation and tour in Makalu Barun National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu international airport and transfer to Hotel.


 

Day 2: Sightseeing in kathmandu and prepare for expedition.


 

Day 3: To make preparation for expedition.


 

Day 4: Fly Kathmandu – Tumlingtaar and trek to Manebhanjyang overnight at tent – 5 hrs


 

Day 5: Manebhanjyang – Kuwapani ( 1420 m.) – 5 hrs trek.


 

Day 6: Kuwapani – Num ( 1800 m.) – 6 hrs


 

Day 7: Num – seduwa ( 1510 m. ) – 5 hrs


 

Day 8: Seduwa – Tashigaon ( 2070 m.) overnight at camp – 4 hrs.


 

Day 9: Tahi goan – khongma ( 3760 m. ) – 6 hrs.


 

Day 10: Khongma – Sano pokhari ( 1710 m. ) – 4 hrs.


 

Day 11: Sano pokhari – Mumbuk ( 3550m.) – 5 hrs.


 

Day 12: Mumbuk – Yangle kharka ( 3600 m.) – 4 hrs


 

Day 13: Yangle kharka – Hillary base camp ( 4800m.) – 6 hrs.


 

Day 14: Hillary base camp – Makalu basecamp ( 4870 m.) – 5 hrs.


 

Day 15-45: climbing period to summit Makalu 8463 m.


   

Day 46: preparing for return


 

Day 47: Base camp – Yak kharka ( 3600 m.) – 5 hrs


 

Day 48: Yak kharka – Mumbuk ( 3550 m. ) – 5 hrs.


 

Day 49: Mumbuk – Tashigaon ( 3420 m.) – 5 hrs.


 

Day 50: Tahi gaon – Num ( 1800 m.) – 5 hrs


 

Day 51: Num – chichira ( 1615 m.) – 5 hrs.


 

Day 52: Chichira – Tumlingtar - 6 hrs. overnight at gesthouse.


 

Day 53: Tumlingtar – Kathmandu by flight
